The language bar allows users to switch between languages. Read the following instructions to activate and use the language bar. Thereafter, click on the link at the end of this page to view a demonstration.

  1. Activate the language bar
  2. Select and toggle between the languages
  3. Select language with a keyboard shortcut
  4. Close language bar

To activate the language bar:

To show the Language Bar:

  1. Open the Region and Language option
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel
    2. under Clock, Language and Region, click Change keyboard and other input methods.
  2. On the Keyboard and Language tab, under Text services and input languages, click Change keyboards...
  3. Click the Language bar tab
  4. Under the language bar, select the Docked in the taskbar check box
  5. Click Apply

Note: If the language bar appears as a float on the desktop right-click the Language Bar and select minimize to dock it to the taskbar. 

Select Arabic as your input language

To select Arabic in the language bar follow one of these three methods:

Method 1: Left-click on the Language Bar and select Arabic.

Method 2: Press Left Alt+Shift and toggle between the languages

Note: To be able to type in Arabic in a particular application the language needs to be selected whilst that application is activated. Select Arabic as your input language

Method 3: Use a keyboard shortcut

To create a keyboard shortcut:

  1. Right-click the Language Bar, and select settings
  1. Under Preferences, select Key Settings
  1. Under Hot Keys for Input Languages, select Switch to Arabic, andthen click Change Key Sequence
  1. Select the Enable the Sequence check box
  1. Click the Drop-Down List and select the number of your choice
  1. Click OK

To use the keyboard shortcut press Left ALT + SHIFT + number. For example, in the demonstration I have used the number 2, therefore, I will press Left ALT + SHIFT + 2.

To hide the Language Bar

To close the Language Bar:

  1. Right-click the Language Bar
  1. Select Close the Language Bar
  1. You may be prompted to confirm, click OK
Note: Closing the language bar does not delete the language. It merely removes it from the desktop. To return the language bar, simply follow the instructions in the previous section titled activate the language bar.
