Objective: You should be run and view Shamela properly

Note: If you have already installed complex script, setup locale (Arabic- Egypt) and acquired a distribution of Shamela. Jump to install:

Setup

So that the text does not display gibberish configure your computer for Arabic (see lessons on configuration). Before proceeding, do the following

  1. Install complex script (See XP)
  2. Set system locale to Arabic Egypt - important (See XP|Vista & 7)

Distribution

Shamela is distributed in three ways:

  • Software (20MB): This is the software without any books. Ideal if you limited space or want to create a customised library. Simply run the software and then import the required books (Follow step 3 below)
  • Packaged (2GB): This is the software with all the books but packaged in a RAR file. Ideal if you are downloading the entire library from the internet or DVD. Simply unpack files and run software (Follow steps 1-3 below)
  • Unpacked (16GB): This is the software with all the books unpacked and ready to be used. Ideal if are transferring an existing library from another hard drive. Simply Transfer files (15GB) and run software (Follow steps 2-3)
Note: We will mostly discuss the packaged (2GB) version of Shamela as it is the likely one that you will be installing. This is the slowest to install but is easier to acquire than the unpacked (16GB) version and less time consuming in the long run than the plain software (20MB) version.

Install

To install Shamela:

  1. Double click Shamela to unpack (WinRAR must be installed)
  2. Select Destination and click OK
  3. In the destination folder, Double Click the _Shamela icon

Note: The first time you run this software in Windows Vista or 7, right click the Shamela icon, click Run as administrator, Click Yes.

Caution: Steps 1 and 2 may take over 4 hours.

Common problems: 

  • Some antivirus software block the shamela or even delete
      • Solution if blocked:Identify it as a safe program in your antivirus or turn antivirus off in that instant
      • Solution if deleted: Go to recycle bin, click on the software and then click restore this item (follow above procedure on antivirus to stop automatic deletion again)
